JONES STEAMS AHEAD: THE MONTHLY AWARDS RESULTS

It's time to announce the winners of the monthly awards results. We asked you to pick the best player, best goal and your favourite match from the month of March and this is how you voted.

There can be little argument about the winner of the player of the month award, this man has saved us points on countless occasions throughout March. He has been our only really consistent player throughout the month and stood out from the pack during a disappointing period. Yes the player of the month for March is Marcus Bignot. Nah not really, it's Paul Jones.
 
Jones wins with over 60% of your votes leaving Lee Cook in second place and still searching for his first award this season despite some good performances of late. Maybe next month Cookie. Look out for Skinner's Re-View later this month where Simon will look back over the performances that won Jones this months award.
   
Goal of the Month

We only scored three goals in March and whilst all of them received votes, one stormed away with the win. Gareth Ainsworth's fifth header of the season took over 67% of your votes to claim his second goal of the month award this season. Marc Bircham's effort at Hillsborough came in second place with Marc Nygaard's goal against Stoke trailing in third.

Furlong's goal, as described in Simon's match report "There wasn’t long to wait though before Rangers did hit the front. Good work on the left saw the ball shifted to Cook and he curled a perfect cross toward the far post. Brighton seemed to be distracted by the presence of Nygaard and didn’t pick up Ainsworth charging in behind him. He nodded the ball home for his seventh of the season."

A bit of history was made in this months best match vote, for the first time ever you picked a nil nil draw as your favourite game. That speaks volumes about the last few weeks! The home match against Wolves is the one that won it with nearly 50% of your votes whilst another scoreless draw, the trip to Cardiff, came in second place.


So that's it for March, all this months winners will go forward to our end of season vote as usual, which means you could be voting the nil nil draw with Wolves as match of the season? Maybe not eh! Anyway we have one more monthly vote to come, at the end of April, and then we'll be able to complete all the nominations for the end of season awards.
