SKINNER'S RE-VIEW : DEXTER'S APRIL
Thursday 17th May 2007
by Simon Skinner
Dexter Blackstock was the deserved winner of your QPRnet.com Player of
the Month for April and a bit of May! His four goals in six games helped
gun Rangers to safety and took him to fourteen goals for the season
overall. The first game of the month was the
1-0 home win over Preston, a game in which Dexter scored
what would be voted the clubs official goal of the
season. The second half had barely got going when Dex
took Nygaard’s pinpoint pass on his chest before sending
a rasping volley into the Preston net. He was unlucky
not to add a second in injury time, he was denied by a
fine save from Lonergan.
The away win at Coventry saw Dexter
leading the line and although he didn’t trouble the
scorers in this one he was tireless as always. He also
had to contend with a shocking challenge from clogger
Robert Page that brought no censure from the official
whatsoever.
Two days later Dexter was back on
target with a deadly double in the 3-2 home win over
relegation fodder Luton Town. His first was a real
poacher’s effort from twelve yards as the ball bobbled
round in the box. His second was a cool penalty under
massive pressure to bring the scores level at 2-2. He
also had to contend with odious gobshite Richard Langley
doing his level best to show what bad sportsmanship is
all about.
Up at Sunderland the team went down
2-1 but Dexter won the penalty that was converted by
Rowlands for the equaliser. Back at Loftus Road
Blackstock was back on target again, scoring the goal
that wrapped up a win against Cardiff and secured
Championship football for next season.
A short corner routine was worked
back out to Lee Cook and as he has done so many times
this season he found Dexter’s perfect run with the
perfect ball and Dexter provided the perfect header.
The final game against Stoke was a
quiet one for Dexter as he returned after missing the
Wolves game through injury. With Rangers down to ten men
he was shunted to the left wing and then taken off with
ten minutes to play having run himself to water as per
usual.
Blackstock has proved to be a fine
signing and if we can get someone to play with him next
season he could go even further than the impressive
fourteen goals he managed this term. He works like a dog
and has made himself a real fans favourite.
Well
done Dexter |
