The first game of this
short month was the 3-1 home win over a Burnley side
that was, and continues to be, in freefall. Gregory
played a 3-4-3 formation with Cook on the left side of
the front three. He opened the scoring in the game with
a beautiful angled drive and he also set up Blackstock
for a bullet header for the second with a pinpoint
corner.
The game away at Southend
was an instantly forgettable affair but could have been
different had referee Walton awarded a penalty when Cook
was hauled over with the score at 1-0.
There was a long time to
wait until Rangers travelled to Elland Road to face
fellow relegation candidates Leeds United. At times Cook
ended up playing as a foil for Blackstock in a position
ill suited to either his or the teams strengths. He did
manage to be the biggest attacking threat for Rangers in
spite of this though.
The final game of the
season was the 1-1 draw at home to Plymouth Argyle when
once again Cook was played off of the lone front man. In
spite of this Cook did manage to bag the equaliser after
Luke McCormick spilled a corner under pressure from his
own players.
So five points from twelve
for Rangers and two goals for Cookie in a month that did
little to help the fight against relegation. If anyone
other than Cook wins every Player of the Season award
going, I will eat my lunch…
Well done Lee. |
