Here's a reminder of each
of the goal of the month winners from the season, with a description of
the goal from Simon's match report.

AUGUST 2006 - MARTIN
ROWLANDS v SOUTHEND (H) |
.jpg) |
"Rowly
had been overshadowed by his young Aussie colleague to this point but
when a freekick was conceded twenty five yards out he stepped up with
purpose. Cook rolled the ball a yard into his path and he sent a vicious
right footed strike screaming into the top corner. Southend could have
had four keepers in and they wouldn’t have had a prayer of keeping it
out." |

SEPTEMBER 2006 - RAY
JONES v SOUTHAMPTON (A) |
.jpg) |
"Five
minutes before half time the game was turned on its head thanks to some
brilliant opportunism from Ray Jones. Bircham pumped a hopeful ball up
the line and there seemed to be little danger as Kelvin Davis tried to
shepherd the ball out of play. Jones didn’t let him settle though and
managed to chase him down and hook the ball away from him. From the
acutest of angles Giant Ray slotted the ball into the gaping net to send
the R’s fans into a frenzy." |

OCTOBER 2006 -
JIMMY SMITH v DERBY (H) |
.jpg) |
"The
equaliser wasn’t long in coming though and it was an absolute belter.
The ball went into the box and as it bounced out Jimmy Smith walked onto
it and sent a left footed volley screaming past Grant into the top
corner. That made it two in two for the Chelsea starlet, with a bit of
luck Jose will allow him to stay at Rangers for the season as this boy
is a bit special. " |

|
NOVEMBER 2006 -
JIMMY SMITH v CRYSTAL PALACE (H) |
.jpg) |
"A ball into the
box was knocked to Gallen by Blackstock and he fed it back out to Jimmy
Smith. The Chelsea youngster took a touch to steady himself before
looping a stunning volley over Flinders for his third goal in seven
games." |

|
DECEMBER 2006 - LEE
COOK v BIRMINGHAM (A) |
.jpg) |
"A delightful bit
of play down the right hand side by Furlong who still has the vision
despite not having much else released Cook. Cookie completely
embarrassed former loan ranger Steven Kelly. The Blues right back just
stood of Cookie and watched him arrow a right footed missile into the
back of the net from just outside the box, goal of the month surely?" |

|
JANUARY 2007 - RAY
JONES v COLCHESTER (H) |
.jpg) |
"Cook was once
again the provider as he sent in a near post cross that was attacked by
Ray Jones. The want away striker turned his body to shield the ball and
deftly headed the ball over the stranded Gerken into the opposite
corner." |
| |
|
|
FEBRUARY 2007 - LEE
COOK v BURNLEY (H) |
.jpg) |
"Lafferty
dallied on the ball in the middle of the park and you don’t need to ask
Bolder twice if he wants to have a challenge. He ran through the Burnley
man and took the ball from him before slipping a perfectly weighted pass
into the path of Lee Cook. Cook carried the ball forward before firing a
perfectly placed shot low past Mike Pollitt and just inside the far
post." |

|
MARCH 2007 - MARK
NYGAARD'S 2nd v LEICESTER (A) |
.jpg) |
"A
long ball up field was flicked on by Furlong into the path of Nygaard
who seemed to have taken up station on the right flank. As the ball
headed toward him the Danish striker started to measure his stride and
you just knew he was hitting it. He made the sweetest contact on the
volley from wide on the right and the ball screamed over the head of the
bewildered Henderson and in!" |

|
APRIL/MAY 2007 -
DEXTER BLACKSTOCK v PRESTON (H) |
.jpg) |
"The
young striker’s first touch cushioned the ball perfectly and as St.
Ledger and Chilvers closed in he speared an exquisite left footed volley
past the helpless Lonergan. The ground erupted to this sensational
strike and it was as much a sense of relief as of celebration. " |
