CHOOSE YOUR PLAYER OF THE SEASON?
Thursday 22nd May 2008
by Ron Norris
The final vote in
this years season awards is now open and this is your chance to choose
your player of the season. Martin Rowlands won the official club award
but will he add to that by winning our vote or will someone else take
the honours?
Each month you have
picked your player of the month and they now form your nominations. Over
the nine months we have had six different winners, here's a breakdown on
each nominee.
|
MARTIN ROWLANDS |
|
Winner - August 2007 & March 2008 |
|
Martin is one of three double winners
this season taking the player of the month award in August
and March. He has undoubtedly had a fine season and has
finally settled into the fine attacking midfield talent we
all hoped he would be. |

|
LEE CAMP |
|
Winner - September 2007 |
|
During the dark times of the season Lee
Camp almost waged a one man war to win us points. He put in
some fine performances and played every minute of every game
this season. |
| |
|
MIKELE LEIGERTWOOD |
|
Winner - October 2007 & November 2007 |
|
Much maligned before he kicked a ball
Leigertwood arrived at Loftus Road and quickly won over the
R's fans with a series of gritty, determined performances
topped off with a collection of fantastic goals. He
dominated the player of the month awards for two successive
months in October and November. |
| |
|
AKOS BUZSAKY |
|
Winner - December 2007 |
|
John Gregory left the number ten shirt
vacant at the start of the season because he didn't believe
anyone was worthy of filling it. Akos arrived after Gregory
left and far from being daunted by the history of the shirt
he revelled in it and made it his own with a string of
exciting, swaggering performances that were more than worthy
of a Rangers number ten. |
| |
|
PATRICK AGYEMANG |
|
Winner - January 2008 & February 2008 |
|
Another player who surprised us all and
won two straight player of the month awards was Patrick
Agyemang. Not seen as a prolific striker, he went on a
fantastic run at the turn of the 2008 scoring in six
consecutive games across the two months, a feat not seen
since Rodney Marsh in 1967. |
| |
|
DEXTER BLACKSTOCK |
|
Winner - April 2008 |
|
Our final winner of the season was Dexter
Blackstock in April. Whilst this has been a far from
brilliant campaign for the young front man the tail end of
the season really saw him recapture some of last seasons
great form and led to his well deserved monthly award in
April. |
