Radek Cerny
Last season
Rangers were crying out for some realistic competition for Lee
Camp. Camp is a massive fans favourite but there was always the
feeling that no matter what he did, you knew he was playing next
week as there simply wasn’t an alternative. Cerny turned out
twenty times for Spurs last season and kept Paul Robinson out of
the side. Whether he is better than what we have only time will
tell but I think he will start the season but end up splitting
the game time with Camp. Big Part.
Peter Ramage
Ramage would
probably consider himself a centre back by trade and has every
chance of playing there when some part of Fitz Hall goes ping
after three games. He lacks a bit of pace at full back but
certainly showed in the pre season games that he isn’t afraid to
get up and support his winger. I think I probably prefer
Connolly as a player but with his injury Ramage has a chance to
stake his claim and he is certainly going to be involved a hell
of a lot. Big Part.
Kaspars
Gorkss
The transfer of
Gorkss turned into a longer running soap opera than Knots
Landing and after all that I think there would be a few people
choking on their £1.80 bottles of Coke if he wasn’t involved at
all times. Like Ramage he doesn’t look the quickest but is a
reader of the game and can use the ball calmly. He is also a
threat at set pieces with the right delivery and it will
certainly be Gorkss and Hall until the latter goes ping. Big
Part.
Matteo
Alberti
The young
Italian winger certainly seems to be a talented lad. A real old
fashioned wide man, he wants to get it down, run at players and
deliver into the box. The issue he is going to have though is
that once the likes of Buzsaky and Ephraim are fit and Rowlands
returns from injury he is going to be well down the pecking
order. He is likely to be behind old warhorse Ainsworth in the
early reckoning so this may be a frustrating first season for
Matteo. Bit Part.
Emmanuel
Jorge Ledesma
This kid can
play, make no bones about it. Whether he can play amongst the
hurly burly of a Championship midfield is a question that only
time will be able to answer. He has shown he has an eye for a
pass, is comfortable in possession and doesn’t mind a pop at
goal. You do wonder though where he is going to fit in amongst
the likes of Rowlands, Buzsaky, Parejo, Cook et al when all are
fit and available. He may feature early on and make a real
impression but I think he will drop out when people come back.
Bit Part.
Dani Parejo
If rumours are
to be believed this young Spaniard is something else and you
can’t see how he won’t play. Real Madrid aren’t going to loan
him out and be happy with him sat on his backside every week so
his signing may even necessitate a change to a one up front
system. Like Ledesma it will be interesting to see how he copes
with people wanting to kick him up in the air all day long! By
all accounts he is a superb passer and deadly from set pieces so
he could prove a real fans favourite. Big Part.
Lee Cook
If Cook is
anything like the player he was before a knee injury wrecked
last season for him then Rangers fans will be absolutely
delighted, not to mention Dexter Blackstock! In his last spell
he turned from a winger that could drift in and out of games and
frustrate the crowd into a menace down the left flank who
constantly delivered quality for the front men. Quality left
wingers are hard to find and Cook most certainly falls into that
category. Big Part.
Samuel Di
Carmine
The thing that
struck me about Di Carmine in pre season was the way he held the
ball up and brought others into play. Should Rangers decide to
switch to a lone striker then he looks more than capable of
filling that role. He is no slouch across the turf despite being
a pretty big fella. I don’t think he will be involved an awful
lot as the season begins but when injuries start to kick in it
could be his chance to shine. Bit Part. |
