Ian Holloway
was today confirmed as the new manager of Plymouth Argyle, which
brought his time at Rangers to an official end. After spending
the last five months on gardening leave, Olly has now been
installed at Home Park. That means Gary Waddock was immediately
confirmed as the full time Rangers boss, as Gianni Paladini had
promised.
Waddo was
clearly delighted to have put the unsettling last few months
behind him, he told the official site how he could now put his
own mark on the club without the ghost of Olly hovering above
his head.
"I'm
delighted that QPR have finally been able to officially announce
my position as first team manager,” he said “now I'll feel a lot
more confident in my role and I'm looking forward to
implementing further changes behind the scenes as well as on the
pitch.”
"The work
ethic and training methods will be subjected to a complete
overhaul and we're looking forward to seeing the results on the
pitch."
Meanwhile, a
couple of hundred miles down the road, Ian Holloway was equally
delighted to have put his past behind him.
“Technically, I could have sat in my garden for another two
years but that is not me” he told the Argyle official website.
"The overall professionalism and the way they've handled this
situation has been nigh on gob-smacking for me, so that's why
I'm here and I'm ready to go to work,” he said before starting
to go off about icing and cake mix.
Good luck to
Olly, I hope that he makes a success of his new role, I’m glad
he got a decent club but I’m even more pleased that QPR can move
on now. The last few months have been a strange old situation
but at the end of the day Paladini has managed to get rid of a
manager without paying him compensation at the cost of five
months wages, decency aside I suppose it’s not bad business….
Talking of
Gianni his mind would have been elsewhere over the last few
weeks, however that was another situation that came to a close
today, although not in the way he may have hoped.
I’m not
going to get into a big review of the trial, it’s been done
elsewhere (and much better than I’d do it too) all I’ll say is I
don’t ever want to see our club dragged through the news like
that again. I want to see the club on the back pages, for the
right reasons not giggled about in The Sun like some sort of bad
episode of the Soprano’s.
Who knows
what the future holds for our Chairman following the trial, the
only positive we can draw from the experience is it is all over
and following the changes in Waddock’s status today we can at
least move onto the new season with a sense of focus.
However this
board is one mistake, one massive cock up, one skeleton in the
closest or one bit of bad luck away from losing every last ounce
of support they still have. This coming season could be the
start of something exciting at Loftus Road, I just pray it
doesn’t get screwed up by politics and in fighting like the last
one did.
