"The fans who still write to
me abusing me and calling me all the names under the sun have a
lot to answer for. They've tried to scupper a move which is in
the best interests of the club"
So once again it's all our
fault. Now don't get me wrong I strongly disagree with sending
abusive letters. It's unproductive and completely devalues your
argument however valid your point is. However there is a huge
depth of feeling against moving the club from Loftus Road for
several reasons. Aside from the emotional attachments (which you
will never break) right now it makes no sense to move a second
division side with average gates of around 10,000 to a 30,000
seater stadium - WE WOULDN'T FILL IT. All we want is someone to
buy the club, invest in new players and youth development and
slowly, slowly restore us to the club we were before Chris
Wrights regime. We know it can't be done over night, we don't
expect miracles. We also don't expect to be lectured by the man
whose naive managerial appointments sunk this once great club to
new depths.
When we were going through
the bad times of last season (and they were some of the worst
times I have ever experienced at Loftus Road) I heard very few
negative chants directed towards Chris Wright. The majority of
the fans seemed to be prepared to back him, indeed where I sit
(upper loft) I have seen arguments break when ever someone
uttered the words "Wright Out". Yet this patient, beleaguered
group of supporters were branded in the media as the thugs that
drove Chris Wright out of Rangers. I wonder how he might of
coped if he has to endure the stick that Richard Thompson has
received.
Now Mr. Wright feels the need
to vent his rage on the fans again. His outburst accuses us of
ruining what he believes to be the best deal for the club. Well
I hate to break it to you Chris but the majority of Rangers fans
did not feel the same, this isn't just about moving grounds,
it's about choosing an owner that will take the club forward
again. If moving grounds becomes an issue in the future then
deal with it then. It's as if moving grounds will solve all our
problems overnight. I don't believe it will. From where I sit
Mr. Ellis's bid seemed to be based solely on a new ground. At
least Maurice Fitzgerald's consortium has based their bid around
building a new youth structure at the club and explained how
they will improve the football side at QPR.
Chris, if you honestly
believe that the QPR fans have ruined the future of the club
then we must agree to disagree. I find it incredibly naive that
as a fan yourself you failed to appreciate the depth of feeling
an emotive issue that a ground move can provoke, especially
after going through the merge debacle. The fact of the matter
remains that the fans of QPR were here before you and will be
here long after you depart. You may not understand, you may have
made a throw away comment, but to me your statement today shows
either a complete lack of understanding as to how QPR fans feel
or a complete lack of concern. I sincerely hope it's the former,
however in either case I am extremely disappointed with what you
have said.
